It is an honor to be
able to address you briefly on this very special occasion.
Fourteen years ago a
candidate for the Carpinteria City Council used to say something
like this: "In the best of all worlds" the Carpinteria Bluffs should
be preserved, however, since common cense dictates that they will
be developed, it is better to work toward the approval of "quality
development."
Twelve years ago another
candidate used to say something like this: " Some people see the
inside of their wallets and like what they see there, others prefer
to see the beauty of the Carpinteria Bluffs"
Margaret Mead, the famous
anthropologist said:
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens
can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
We are here to celebrate
the fact that this community, a community of thoughtful committed
citizens has taken a stand for nothing less than the best of all
worlds.
What was once a field
of dreams and a field of battle is now our field of honor.
It is here to provide
inspiration when we have choices to make. And life is about making
choices.
Thank you for choosing
to be thoughtful
Thank you for choosing to be committed
Thank you for choosing to be generous
From the bottom of my heart: thank you for choosing beauty.
